Other: At first glance, these look identical to the Roughnecks jerseys.  I've only seen Whitecaps versions in long-sleeve.   The Roughnecks appear to be all short-sleeved.  The Whitecaps logo is on the right sleeve.  If there is a Roughnecks logo it is always on the upper left chest.

Also the collar is the color of the shirt.  With the '82 style, the collar is the opposite color of the shirt.

Other: Peter Ward played with the Whitecaps in 1984.  However, this jersey is an '83.  The '83 Soccer Bowl patch has been screened over.

Other:  The '84 arm striping has a few differences than the '83.  In '83 has 5 bands: Dark blue, light blue, dark blue, light blue and the dark blue.

The '84 has 3 bands: Light blue, Dark Blue, and Light blue.

The Maple leaf also appears to be different sizes in '83 and '84.  I'm not certain on that.  I've never had an '84 to measure.

The fabric on the '84 jersey is not as smooth as the '83 jersey.
